Hundreds missing.
Russian troops are suffering significant losses during the fighting in Syria. Some units of the Russian army are surrounded. GUR (Ukrainian Defence Intelligence) reported on the situation in Syria.
It is noted that against the backdrop of losses and growing panic among Russian military personnel in Syria, the Kremlin dismissed the commander of the group in this country, General Sergei Kisel.
General Kisel had previously lost his position due to failed actions during the invasion of Ukraine, after which he was sent on a mission to Syria.
"Moscow sent another military leader to replace Kisel and help the regime of Bashar al-Assad - General Alexander Chaiko, who commanded the group of Russian troops in Syria in 2017-2019, has already arrived in the territory of the Arab country," the statement reads.
According to the GUR, the commander of the Russian Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, was also spotted at the naval base in Tartus.
“After three days of successful offensive actions by pro-Turkish forces in Syria, Russian troops suffered significant losses, and some units of the aggressor state are surrounded. Hundreds of Russians are listed as missing in Syria,” the GUR noted.
