Natallia Radzina: This Is Already Seventh Political Prisoner, Who Died In Belarusian Prison
Natallia Radzina

There might be more in reality.

Natallia Radzina, Charter97.org editor-in-chief, has reacted to the death of political prisoner Ihar Lednik in the Lukashenka prison:

"Today 64-year-old opposition activist Ihar Lednik died in the Mahiliou prison. He became the seventh (!) Belarusian political prisoner to die in custody. The seventh, not the fifth, as some media write. This terrible martyrologist should include two prisoners of conscience, who committed suicide, unable to withstand the abuse.

Here is the full list. The worst thing is that it may not be complete, as the exact number and names of all political prisoners are unknown.

On May 21, 2021, political prisoner Vitold Ashurak died in the Shklou colony.

On January 5, 2022 political prisoner Dzmitry Dudoyts committed suicide in Mahiliou.

On May 7, 2023 political prisoner Mikalai Klimovich died in the colony.

On July 5, 2023, Dzmitry Sarokin, a 37-year-old poet, participant of contemporary art festivals, died suddenly in the Lida district police station.

On July 11, 2023 artist Ales Pushkin died of a perforated ulcer in the Hrodna prison.

On January 13, 2024 Belarusian political prisoner Vadzim Khrasko died of pneumonia in the colony.

On February 20, 2024 it became known about the death in prison of opposition activist Ihar Lednik, who had a disability group due to heart problems."
