AFU Destroy Rarest Russian 'Ddoomsday' Machine At Front

It was developed back in the USSR.

The Ukrainian defence forces have managed to destroy the first rare Russian "doomsday" vehicle of Ladoga, designed to transport commanders in a nuclear war, during the entire period of full-scale invasion. This was stated by military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko, analysing the video from the front, which was published the day before.

"Ladoga" was created in the times of the USSR on the basis of the T-80 tank. The promising highly protected vehicle was developed by the Kirov Plant in Leningrad, for which a special design division, Design Bureau-A, was even created in 1982.

This vehicle has a sealed manned compartment and anti-radiation protection, engine-transmission and filter-ventilation units, a set of information and specialised communication facilities with a unit for regeneration of air exhausted in the manned compartment.

The crew of the vehicle is 2 persons, and the crew compartment can accommodate 4 persons. The machine was equipped with a GTE-1000TF or GTE-1250 engine, respectively, with 1100 or 1250 horses.

The vehicle itself showed itself perfectly during the liquidation of the Chernobyl disaster, but after the collapse of the USSR it was not interesting to anyone and retired. A total of 4 Ladoga VTSs were produced, and the only operable one was presented at the exposition of the Patriot exhibition centre in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky (Rostov region).

"It seems that it was this single, operable copy that was destroyed the other day. I think you can draw conclusions for yourself," the expert emphasises.
