Lukashenko Was Very Frightened

The bellicose rhetoric quickly evaporated.
Lukashenko once again attempted to portray his regime as a party that is allegedly not involved in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Lukashenko recalled the time before the start of the major war, when, according to him, Ukrainians used to come to Belarus to pick berries.
“Come visit. We are by no means aggressors,” the dictator declared on August 15.
Ukrainian commentators note Lukashenko’s fear and urge people not to forget his crimes.
“Lukashenko talks about ‘our people’ in Ukraine and claims that Belarus is not an aggressor. Let me remind you that it was because of Lukashenko’s regime that Russian troops invaded the Kyiv region. Because of Lukashenko’s regime, tragedies occurred in Bucha, Gostomel, and Borodyanka. It is precisely because of him that ‘shahids’ fly over the Kyiv region almost every day,” — wrote Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko.
Many recall that as early as February 6, 2022, in an interview with Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, Lukashenko said that ‘Kyiv will not go to war with Minsk, because this war will last three or four days at most.’ Four years later, on June 15, 2026, the dictator said that “Belarus is as clear as day to the Ukrainian military”. The bellicose rhetoric evaporated after the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ successes on the front lines.
