French Senator Calles On NATO And The EU To Consider Cotton Sanctions Against Russia

Details.

NATO and EU member states should consider the possibility of imposition of sanctions on the supply of all types of cotton products to the Russian Federation. French senator, member of the French Senate Committee on Defense and International Relations Guillaume Gontard stated this in a commentary to Guildhall.

He explained that cotton products can be processed into nitrocellulose, a raw material used in the production of ammunition. According to him, NATO and the EU should also investigate the issue of supplies of nitrocellulose by Western companies to Russia through third countries and apply sanctions to such companies.

The senator said a recently released investigation into Russia importing nitrocellulose for ammunition production through a Turkish company and indirectly through German and Taiwanese companies is "seriously concerning." He noted that Russia doubled imports of nitrocellulose last year, while European industrial plants fear a shortage of this important component, which could affect their own production.

Gontard noted that, despite some statements by Western leaders, including the President of France, European countries have not switched to a war economy. “Two years after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the time is more than best for this,” he said.
