An expert has estimated how long the war in Ukraine will last.
Russia can wage war in the current regime for a very long time. According to some estimates, the Russian occupiers will have enough military equipment for 1.5-2 years.
But people in the Russian Federation will not be spared or protected. This opinion was expressed by journalist and Israeli military expert Sergey Auslender in an interview with Glavred.
“Russia can wage war in this regime for a very long time, literally for years. Gather people, military equipment, conduct offensives. Run out of steam, stop, gather people again and advance. According to various estimates, the Russians have enough military equipment for another year and a half to two years of war. There are a lot of people there, nowhere to put them, and they are not used to saving them anyway,” the military expert said.
According to him, the war can last a long time. But some events can stop it. For example, if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's health deteriorates sharply, or if Russia runs out of strength.
“That's why the war can go on for quite a long time. Until some event happens — for example, a heart attack or stroke of a famous character. Or until the Russians finally run out of strength. But you can run out of strength, too. The mobilization potential of your enemy is at least 7 times higher. A game-changer in the form of some kind of weapon can also change the current situation, but it is not yet clear what kind of weapon it should be,” Auslender noted.
He also gave an example of other wars in the world and how they were resolved.
“Here we can recall other wars. The Iran-Iraq war lasted eight years. At first, the Iraqis advanced, then the Iranians pushed them back. The line of contact stabilized and stood in one place for several years until both sides came to the conclusion that they were in a deadlock. The sides lost people and military equipment, but neither of them achieved any success in the war. In the end, they came to their agreements. Another example is the Korean War, which last year took place along the 38th parallel with a relatively stable front,” the Israeli military expert noted.
