Paris in return is ready to give Athens Rafale fighter jets at a reduced price.
France has offered Greece a deal to transfer all its Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine. In return, Athens will receive favorable terms for the purchase of Rafale fighters from Dassault Aviation. The French newspaper Le Figaro writes about it.
French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Greece on Friday and Saturday, April 24-25. Media speculates that the country's leader will offer the Greek government an exchange of all their 43 Mirage 2000 aircraft and their spare parts for an equivalent number of Rafale jets at a reduced price.
The aircraft in question are 24 Mirage 2000-5s and 19 older Mirage 2000 EGM/BGMs. However, they are probably not all combat capable, as the older versions have already been decommissioned.
Paris will offer to supply Athens with a "like number" of Rafale fighters at a reduced price.
The specific terms of the deal and the exact value of the equipment are to be agreed by both sides during negotiations.
The exchange of the Mirage for the Rafale will allow the 114th Greek Fighter Squadron to fully equip two squadrons with a total of 36 Rafale aircraft.
