Hungarian Saber For Putin's Back

The Kremlin can only react vaguely.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban arrived in Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This is the first visit of a politician to Ukraine after the outbreak of a full-scale war.

Orban remains practically the only leader of an EU member state that maintains relations with Moscow. Budapest regularly blocks assistance to Ukraine and freezes anti-Russian sanctions, which Russian propaganda reads as a pro-Russian position.

But it is difficult to call Orban pro-Russian. Despite all the protests, in the end, Hungary always agrees on anti-Russian sanctions and assistance to Ukraine, receiving in return certain bonuses for itself. As for relations with Kyiv, there are contradictions about Transcarpathia. Hungary believes that Ukraine infringes on the rights of ethnic Hungarians.

At a meeting with Zelensky, he proposed a ceasefire to start negotiations with Moscow. The Kremlin said that they have no expectations from Orban's trip to Kyiv.

Dear friend Viktor turned out to be another partner who did not meet Putin's expectations and sat down at the same table with the "illegitimate" (in Moscow's opinion) Zelensky. The same knife was recently stabbed in the back by Serbia, which supplied weapons to Ukraine through third countries. Chinese partners, on whom Russia had especially many hopes, are not particularly eager to cooperate with Moscow.

In general, no matter how much Putin bets on those who have disagreements with the European Union and the United States, it still turns out that no one is in a hurry to cooperate with the bloody dictator. The Kremlin, on the other hand, has to react vaguely and hope that at least Lukashenka will not leave it alone.
