The First "Russian Mayor" Was Removed From Office In Colombia
Mikhail Krasnov

Mikhail Krasnov was stripped of his powers for 14 years.

The Attorney General's Office of Colombia has suspended and deprived the "Russian mayor" of the city of Tunha Mikhail Krasnov of his powers for 14 years. This is reported by Infobae.

The oversight body found that Krasnov was not able to register as a candidate for the October 29, 2023 election and take office on January 1, 2024, because less than a year before, in 2022, he had signed a teaching contract at the Pedagogical and Technological University in Tunha.

Krasnov has been reviewing and writing academic articles in German and English.

Columbia law does not allow a contractor for a government entity to engage in the work of an official. Despite this, Krasnov criticized the authorities' decision. Until the appeal is heard, he will remain in his post by law.

Once Krasnov was elected mayor of Tunha in 2024, Colombia's attorney general's office decided to investigate possible violations of the law. In addition to the history with teaching, the supervisory body was going to find out the circumstances of the Russian obtaining a Colombian passport.
