The Pentagon has revealed details of Operation Baltic Sentry.

The U.S. will deploy a specialized Marine Corps unit, currently stationed in Europe, to the Baltic Sea region, reported the Pentagon press office. The troops will be sent there to support NATO’s Baltic Sentry mission.

This involves the deployment of approximately 40 service members from the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion of the 2nd Marine Division, which is based at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. These Marines, together with the Finnish Coastal Brigade, will provide surveillance and tactical reconnaissance. The mission’s goal is to strengthen control over the situation at sea, protect critical underwater infrastructure, and enhance overall security in the region.

“Baltic Sentry” is a collective defense effort led by European NATO member countries, with the U.S. Marine Corps playing a supporting and enabling role.

“Ensuring stability in Europe’s key maritime chokepoints helps protect the physical and economic security of the transatlantic community. Operation Baltic Sentry underscores the Alliance’s immediate combat readiness, its technological adaptability, and its collective resolve to deter and decisively overcome any threat to regional stability,” the release added.
