Allegedly in connection with a bribery case.
The 224th Garrison Military Court of the Russian Federation remanded Alexei Suglobov, commander of the Leningrad Naval Base of the Baltic Fleet, to a pretrial detention center on charges of bribery (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code), reports "Fontanka". According to the publication, the captain first rank was caught red-handed on October 21 in Kronstadt while receiving 1.5 million rubles. Lieutenant Colonel Alexei Ionov, head of the naval engineering service at the Federal State Institution of the Ministry of Defense in Lomonosov, was detained along with him. He faces a similar charge and has also been arrested.
According to the investigation, since late 2025, the officers had systematically received money from businessmen in exchange for illegally transferring territory of the Leningrad Naval Base for commercial use and for general protection. In particular, the businessmen extracted sand and gravel in the Lomonosov military town. The pits left behind after extraction were then filled with construction debris, which allowed the companies to save on disposal costs, according to the case files. Suglobov and Ionov are charged with several counts of accepting bribes totaling millions of rubles. They face up to 15 years in prison.
In April 2023, Suglobov served as chief of staff of the Leningrad Naval Base, and in 2025 he became its commander. At that time, he was 45 years old. Previously, he had led the 128th Surface Ship Brigade of the Baltic Fleet and commanded the patrol ship *Yaroslav the Wise* and the large amphibious assault ship *Korolev*. In 2012, under his command, the “Yaroslav the Wise” undertook a 200-day voyage across the North Atlantic, the North Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea, covering more than 15,000 nautical miles.
