Brussels will allocate funds to re-equip the Ukrainian army.

The European Commission has allocated 1.24 billion euros to Ukraine for the modernization of its military. The funds will come from a 90-billion-euro loan package covering this year and next, according to “Belarusian Service of Polish Radio”.

A spokesperson for the European Commission Balázs Ujvári announced the allocation of aid.

“The funds will be used to purchase drones, equipment for intercepting drones, ammunition for them, as well as Ukrainian-made missiles,” he noted.

Ujvari emphasized that supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities remains a priority for the EU.

“This funding will help Ukraine meet urgent needs on the battlefield and strengthen its defenses against Russian attacks,” the European Commission spokesperson said.

The total amount of funds available for transfer to Ukraine this year is 28 billion euros. More than 15 billion of that is earmarked for military support, and just under 13 billion is intended to ensure essential public services.

The European Commission also reported that since 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale war, the European Union and its member states have provided Ukraine with support totaling more than 220 billion euros.
