Russians Are Flocking To Belarus For New Year's

For the first time, Minsk has surpassed Moscow in the number of reservations for the New Year's holidays.

Minsk and Grodno turned out to be among the most popular New Year’s destinations for Russian tourists. Grodno even made it into the top ten most popular destinations for the first time, according to media reports “Vecherny St. Petersburg”.

Minsk, meanwhile, has surpassed Moscow for the first time in terms of the number of New Year’s holiday bookings. Experts rank Minsk among the top five destinations for Russians to celebrate the New Year. A noticeable increase in interest in Grodno is also being observed. Experts describe the demand as “frenetic.”

The top three destinations are: St. Petersburg, Minsk, and Moscow. Within Russia, Russians also prefer to celebrate New Year’s in cities such as Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Yaroslavl, Kislovodsk, Kaliningrad, and Zelenogradsk.

A year ago, a similar trend was observed in Belarus. STV reported that Grodno had become one of the most popular vacation destinations for Russians during the winter holidays.

By the end of November, nearly all tickets for the Moscow–Minsk train had been sold out, and there were no seats left at all on the Moscow–Vitebsk route. On the eve of December, rooms in hotels and inns were almost completely booked.
