A company run by Belarusians was fined 20 million zlotys in Poland for supplying cars to Russia in circumvention of EU sanctions. This was the maximum possible penalty, reported the Customs and Tax Administration in Krakow.
The agency's inspectors found that between 2022 and 2023, a firm of Belarusians registered in the Małopolskie voivodeship was buying expensive cars in Western countries Then they were resold outside the EU. The transportation documents indicated third countries, but in reality the cars ended up in Russia. Direct deliveries would have been impossible due to the sanctions imposed after the outbreak of war in Ukraine.
The route from Poland led to Lithuania, from there to Belarus, and finally the cars reached the final buyers in Russia. In this way, more than 100 vehicles worth more than 49 million PLN were transported.
The tax administration noted that the collected evidence shows that the company's management acted deliberately and purposefully circumvented the sanctions. For this, the firm was fined 20 million zlotys. It is reported that this is one of the largest cases in Poland on charges of this kind.
