Pakistan And Iraq Have Reached Agreements With Iran On Tanker Passage Through The Strait Of Hormuz

Reuters revealed the details.

Iraq and Pakistan have formalized new energy and logistics arrangements with Iran. The agreements are aimed at ensuring the security and stability of oil and gas supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

The agreements are the result of Tehran's growing influence in the region and its desire to tightly control the world's key waterway. This is reported by Reuters.

Key details of the agreements

The new documents reportedly provide for the creation of special "safe corridors" for tankers bound for ports in Iraq and Pakistan. In return for guarantees of unimpeded passage and protection from possible disruptions in navigation, Baghdad and Islamabad agreed to expand cooperation in the energy sector and use Iranian service facilities.

Sources stated that the new agreements only confirm that Tehran is demonstrating its capabilities to control the Strait of Hormuz not only through military methods but also through diplomatic leverage, offering regional players predictability in exchange for loyalty.

Details of the agreement with Iraq

Iraq, heavily dependent on exports through southern ports, has agreed to coordinate ship movements with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This includes advance notice of tanker schedules and joint measures to prevent environmental incidents.

In addition, Baghdad reiterated its willingness to increase imports of Iranian natural gas for its power plants despite pressure from Western sanctions.

Details of the agreement with Pakistan

For Pakistan, the deal is even more explicitly energy-related. Islamabad is accelerating the completion of its section of the Mir pipeline. As part of the Strait of Hormuz agreement, Iran guarantees priority support to ships carrying Pakistani cargoes in case of crisis situations in the strait.

Geopolitical Context

The Strait of Hormuz is the world's most important hydrocarbon transit point, through which about 20% of the world's oil consumption passes. Experts believe the deals are Tehran's response to attempts at international isolation. By concluding bilateral pacts with its neighbors, Iran is actually creating a "club of trusted partners" for whom the risk of blocking the Strait is minimized.

Western analysts express concern that such separate agreements could weaken international pressure on Tehran and change the balance of power in the Persian Gulf, giving Iran additional tools to influence the global energy market.
