Republican leaders in the Senate and the White House tried to insert $1 billion for security upgrades related to the East Wing project into a party budget bill to fund U.S. immigration policy and homeland security.
They argue that the new ballroom is needed to protect U.S. President Donald Trump Spokesman Ryan Urras said they would "rework, finalize and resubmit" the bill.
