The flagship aircraft carrier has proven its combat capability in different regions of the world.

The USS Nimitz aircraft carrier strike group, which includes the aircraft carrier of the same name, has arrived in the Caribbean Sea.

The U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced this in its social media account X reported the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).

According to SOUTHCOM, this naval strike group includes the aircraft carrier Nimitz, Carrier Air Wing 17, and the destroyer Gridley. They are escorted by the tanker Patuxent.

The report notes that the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz "has proven its combat capability in various regions of the world." SOUTHCOM did not specify what tasks the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier group would perform in the Caribbean Sea.

But the administration of US President Donald Trump has long discussed the scenario of a military attack on Cuba. True, Trump recently said that there would be no escalation of the conflict on the island. According to him, "there is no need for it." But after this statement of the American president, the aircraft carrier group of the US Armed Forces Nimitz arrived in the area of Cuba.

In January 2026, Trump imposed an energy blockade on Cuba, promising to impose economic sanctions on countries that supply oil and petroleum products to the island. The U.S. Navy does not allow tankers to enter the island. Trump is counting on this to help change the Cuban regime. But so far, neither energy nor diplomatic pressure on Havana has brought the United States the expected result.

In this regard, there are more and more frequent reports that Washington is considering a forceful option to change the power in Cuba.
