Inside the structure, they found over two thousand packs of contraband.

In Lithuania, border guards pulled out an unusual raft from the Nyaris River, which had come from Belarus. Inside the metal structure was a cargo of cigarettes worth more than 12 thousand euros. This was reported by the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.

The suspicious object was spotted in the border waters of Nyaris about 30 meters from the shore. The snowflake-shaped hexagonal structure was partially submerged in the water and stuck among water plants and branches.

"Using a service boat, border guards pulled the object - a metal structure - ashore and brought it to the border guard station. There they extracted 2250 packs of NZ Gold cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps wrapped in black polyethylene film from the cavities of the structure. The cost of such a quantity of illegal cigarettes, including all mandatory taxes in Lithuania is 12,397 euros," reported the border guards.

A pre-trial investigation into the illegal storage of excisable goods has been launched. Such a crime is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to four years.

The Guard Service noted that border guards have rarely encountered such a way of transportation of Belarusian cigarettes recently.
