NATO Reacts To Russian Drone Hitting Apartment Building In Romania

NATO reacted to the fall of a Russian drone on a high-rise building in Romania. The country is a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

NATO spokeswoman Alison Garth emphasized that the Alliance's Secretary General is in contact with Romanian authorities.

"We condemn Russia's recklessness and NATO will continue to strengthen our defenses against all threats, including drones," she wrote.

Drone fell to the 10th floor

The night of May 28-29 was again used by Russia for drone strikes against Ukrainian civilian and infrastructure targets near the river border with Romania. One of the drones crossed the border and crashed into the roof of an apartment building in the city of Galati.

The impact caused an apartment on the 10th floor to catch fire. Two people were injured - they were treated on the spot. Rescuers managed to quickly put out the fire.

What Romania did

The country's radars tracked the approach of drones to Romanian airspace. At 01:19, two F-16 fighter jets and an IAR 330 SOCAT helicopter took to the skies.

"The pilots of the aircraft had authorization to engage targets throughout the alert period," the Romanian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

According to the report, the UAV was large in size - its wingspan reached three meters.
