The expert explained why the loss of the Tu-142 is unpleasant for the Russian Federation.
The destruction of two Tu-142 strategic anti-submarine aircraft can be seen as a continuation of the "Spider Web" operation conducted a year ago, after which the Russian side, according to an expert, was unable to fully compensate for losses. This was written about in Facebook by Ivan Kirichevsky, a serviceman of the 413th Regiment of Unmanned Systems Force "Raid" and Defense Express analyst Ivan Kirichevsky.
In his assessment, such episodes demonstrate the vulnerability of the Russian military infrastructure, and Moscow's information reaction is aimed at reducing the significance of what happened. "We are talking about the episode where Ukrainian drones very greasily drove a rag over the Russians' 'red lines'," he noted.
The expert specifies that the Tu-142 is a long-range oceanic anti-submarine aircraft designed to search for and destroy nuclear submarines with intercontinental missiles. It has a combat radius of up to 5,000 km and can carry up to 11 tons of armament, including hydroacoustic buoys, torpedoes and depth bombs.
"The combat radius of the Tu-142 family of aircraft is 5,000 km and the combat load is up to 11 tons," Kirichevsky stressed.
According to him, Russia has a limited number of such machines: about 12 units of Tu-142M/MZ and about 10 more in the Tu-142MR version used to communicate with nuclear submarines carrying nuclear weapons.
He also noted that the defeat of facilities in Taganrog, where, according to him, these aircraft were repaired and maintained, is a significant blow to Russia's capabilities. At the same time, the expert doubts the versions about hitting the decommissioned equipment.
"The assessment of some Ukrainian observers that in Taganrog they hit just decommissioned in the 2010s Tu-142s also looks wrong," he said, adding that the fact that the planes were on fire indicates the presence of fuel and their suitability for flight.
Separately, Kirichevsky stressed that these aircraft are important not only for anti-submarine defense, but also for the nuclear deterrence system in the maritime area.
