The Ukrainian president hopes for a response from the head of the White House.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said he had requested a license to produce Patriot anti-ballistic missiles in a recent letter to his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump.

He said this in an interview with CBS News recorded on May 29.

Journalist Margaret Brennan asked Zelensky if he had received a response to his letter. The Ukrainian president said he hoped so, and noted that he had asked the US side to give Kiev licenses to increase production of Patriot missiles

"Germany now has certain licenses," Zelensky said. And emphasized: "It will be very useful for us, it will be very useful for the Middle East, for everyone whom the United States decides to help."

The shortage of interceptors for ballistic missiles is growing, stated Vladimir Zelensky.

"Of course, one of the reasons is the situation in the Middle East with the Iranian war... I hope that the ceasefire will be a long and lasting peace," he said. However, he reminded that there is no ceasefire in Ukraine and Russia is increasing its own production of ballistic missiles amid a shortage of missile defenses.

"I know all the companies in the United States, they are big companies, but only the United States can produce this amount. 60, 65 missiles a month for today's challenges is nothing. Russia knows this, this is not secret information. We need to expand production," said Vladimir Zelensky.
