A Russian Equivalent Of "Ozempic" Will Be Launched On The Belarusian Market

It is intended for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity.

The Russian company "Geropharm" has registered the drug "Semavik" (INN: semaglutide) in the Republic of Belarus. It will be the first generic version of the Danish drug "Ozempic" available in the country.

The drug is intended for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity, according to "Farmprom".

According to the World Health Organization, more than 380,000 people in Belarus suffer from type 2 diabetes, and the problem of obesity affects about 1.5 million citizens (more than 17% of the population). Given the lack of a registration certificate for the original semaglutide-based drug and its unavailability in the country’s pharmacy chains, the launch of “Semavika” is intended to provide patients with modern treatment for metabolic diseases.

The drug’s registration was carried out as part of Geropharm’s long-term cooperation with Belarus. The company has been present in the Belarusian market for over 15 years (supplying the original drugs “Retinalamin” and “Cortexin”) and has its own representative office in Minsk.

In 2025, the technology transfer for the production of insulin aspart (“RinFast”) at the facilities of RUE “Belmedpreparaty” was successfully completed. Currently, a licensing agreement is in effect for the localization of three additional drugs: insulin glulisine and insulin glargine in 100 and 300 IU dosages. This technology transfer is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

In addition to Belarus, the drug “Semavik” has previously been registered in Paraguay, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

Side effects of Semavik include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating, belching, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, weakness, dehydration, and, less commonly, gallstones, gallbladder inflammation, pancreatitis, allergic reactions, and hypoglycemia (when combined with certain blood sugar-lowering medications).
