The Secretary Of Defense Spoke About Cuba's Future

The Secretary Of Defense Spoke About Cuba's Future
Pete Hegset

The U.S. Department of Defense remains prepared for "any unforeseen circumstances."

Pentagon Chief Pete Hegset asserts that Cuba’s future lies in the hands of U.S. President Donald Trump and the island’s leadership. He made this statement during a visit to the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo.

According to him, the U.S. Department of Defense remains prepared for “any unforeseen circumstances.” The Pentagon chief urged Cuba not to attempt to acquire weapons to strike the Guantanamo base, as this “would provoke a confrontation that it not only does not want, but could not withstand.”

Prior to this, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused the Cuban authorities of providing territory within the republic to representatives of intelligence services from countries hostile to Washington. According to him, the United States cannot allow its adversaries to station intelligence personnel or military bases within 90 miles (~145 km) of its territory.
