Igor Lipsits: There Is Putin's Key Task In Relation To Belarus
Igor Lipsits

A Russian economist believes that our country will become a problem for the Kremlin's economy.

Putin's key task is not to create a bridgehead in Belarus, not to restrain Ukrainian forces in the north, but to seize the country. This opinion was expressed by Russian economist Igor Lipsits in an interview with YouTube channel of Ukrainian journalist Alexander Demchenko. The site Charter97.org quotes a fragment of the conversation.

"You know, I may be one of the few who really believe that Putin's key task is not even to create a bridgehead in Belarus, not to restrain Ukrainian forces in the north, but to seize Belarus, because, as in the fourteenth year, it is necessary to show something to the population," said the expert. - If he captures it after all, does he get a profit or does he get a colossal economic problem for himself?

I think it will be a big disaster, because Belarus has few valuable things - territory, advancement to Europe, but it is already using this territory, the economy is not very good there, it is rather weak. There was a certain moment when Belarus looked good against Russia, there were working enterprises there, something was more or less nice there, now it's all lost, destroyed, Belarusian software industry has disappeared, it has cheerfully moved to Warsaw and so on. So he will get a rather backward territory, which will have to be fed again, nothing good except two oil refineries, which work on the same Russian oil. He can't have any growth, and now he will have to maintain Belarus instead of Lukashenko," Lipsits said.
