This is about the first program of its kind.
The European Union will provide Armenia with €2.2 million to support the visa liberalization process, the press service of the republic's Interior Ministry said.
The launch ceremony of the program aimed at supporting the visa liberalization dialogue in Armenia took place on June 1.
"Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan stressed that this is the first program in Armenia that directly supports the visa liberalization process. According to her, the program is an important step towards deepening cooperation between Armenia and the EU, expanding opportunities for free and dignified movement of Armenian citizens, as well as strengthening humanitarian ties," the statement said.
Sargsyan said Armenia seeks "as soon as possible" to achieve visa-free regime with the EU.
Armenia has officially declared its aspirations for EU membership and suspended its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization. On May 5, the first-ever bilateral summit between Armenia and the European Union was held in Yerevan, right after the European Political Community (EPC) summit, which brought together more than 40 European leaders.
