Rubio Reveals When U.S. Will Stop Renewing License For Oil From Russia

The Secretary of State responded to a question during a Senate hearing.

The United States would like to stop the extension of licenses for oil supplies from Russia as soon as it becomes possible in the opinion of the Ministry of Finance. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a Senate hearing, Associated Press reports. He added that it depends on the circumstances.

"We would like to stop this as soon as possible because the underlying policy of this country has been to impose sanctions on their oil. This is a temporary exception to open up greater access to world supplies," Rubio said.

The Senate meeting was called in connection with the annual budget request for the State Department. The New York Times writes that the hearing will also touch on national security issues, President Trump's negotiations with Iran and increasing U.S. pressure on the Cuban government.
