Alexander Lapin led the offensive of Russian troops on Kiev, Chernigov and Sumy regions.
Colonel-General of the Russian Armed Forces, former commander of the Central Military District of Russia Alexander Lapin, who led the offensive of Russian troops on Kiev, Chernihiv and Sumy regions, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. This was announced on June 2 on Facebook by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.
Prosecutors proved: in February - March 2022, this general was not a formal commander "on paper". He directly organized the invasion, planned and coordinated the actions of subordinate units, gave orders and ensured the continuation of hostilities against Ukraine.
Under his command, according to the prosecutor's office, Russian troops occupied settlements in Chernihiv and Sumy regions and moved towards Kiev along the left bank of the Dnieper. Their goal was to seize the Ukrainian capital, state and military authorities and establish occupation control. As Kravchenko pointed out, Lapin "wanted to take Kiev in three days."
"The court found him guilty of encroaching on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, as well as planning, preparing, unleashing and waging a war of aggression," Kravchenko said.
Since Lapin is hiding in Russia, the court handed down the sentence in absentia. The term of serving the sentence will start from the moment of his actual detention, the prosecutor-general pointed out.
