Slovak PM Loses Court Over Book 'Fico Obsessed With Power'
Robert Fitzo

The Slovakian Prime Minister demanded €200,000 in compensation.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo has lost a lawsuit against the editor-in-chief of the portal Aktuality.sk Peter Bardi and the publishing house Ringier Slovakia Media, which published a book about him, also authored by Bardi. This is reported by Aktuality.sk.

Fitzo demanded to recover €200 thousand in compensation for the use of his image on the cover of Bardi's book "Fitzo Obsessed with Power." The Prime Minister demanded €100 thousand each from the author and the publishing company.

Peter Bardi's book "Fitzo Obsessed with Power" is devoted to the political career of Robert Fitzo and the development of Slovak politics over the past three decades. The author touches in particular on the topics of corruption, political scandals and party influence. The book is based on interviews with nearly three dozen of Fico's colleagues, associates and opponents, as well as analysis of media publications and specialized literature.

Fico claimed that he did not consent to the use of his photo, but the Bratislava court concluded that his rights had not been violated and dismissed the lawsuit. The judge also indicated that the requested amount of compensation for moral harm was excessive.

At the hearing, Fitzo's representative David Lindtner withdrew the lawsuit against Bardi. It was clear from the testimony of the parties and the documents presented that the editor-in-chief of Aktuality.sk, as the author of the text, was not involved in the creation of the book cover. Fitzo maintained the claim against the publisher until the end of the trial, but the court also dismissed it.

The Prime Minister himself was not present at the hearing.
