Urmat Usenov, the son of former Kyrgyz Prime Minister Daniyar Usenov, is in pre-trial detention center-18 Almaty in Kazakhstan. Sources told Kyrgyz publication Kaktus.media.

Two citizens of Kyrgyzstan and a citizen of Kazakhstan were detained along with the son of the former top official. They are suspects in the case of illegal business activities and creation of a transnational organized group.

At the same time, 1.6 tons of hookah tobacco was seized from the detainees.

Daniyar Usenov headed the Kyrgyz government until 2010, and then left the country with former president Kurmanbek Bakiyev, going to Belarus.

It is possible, the Kyrgyz press says, that Usenov could have taken hundreds of millions of dollars out of the country. In his home country, he has been sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison.

In Belarus, Usenov changed his name to Daniel Uritsky. At one time he headed the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation.
