Belarus now has few troops for an offensive, but it cannot be ruled out.
There are Russian troops in Belarus, but not yet in sufficient numbers for an offensive. However, the risk of an invasion remains, and so far Russia is still using the airspace of Belarus to attack Ukraine. This was told at a briefing on June 5 by the speaker of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBSU) Andrii Demchenko.
"There is a growing threat to our country because the Kremlin is now more actively pressuring Belarus to join the war against our country on the side of Russia with its own forces. We can't rule out a repeat invasion, but with other components, as well as provocations on the border to distract our attention," said Demchenko.
The official recalled that work to strengthen the Ukrainian border - it shares 1000 kilometers with Belarus - continues. These are Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.
Although there will be no land operations across the border in the near future, the Russian army, according to Demchenko, is already using Belarus for drone launches.
The majority of drones - "Shaheds", "Gerber" - that Russia launches across the territory of Ukraine, come in exactly through the border with Ukraine.
Some of them can then return to Belarus and go further through the territory of that country to fly through Kiev and Zhitomir regions.
Demchenko says the Russians are destroying border infrastructure. Minsk, however, has never once condemned the Kremlin's attacks.
