Ukraine has the advantage right now.
US President Donald Trump has a policy to end the war in Ukraine aimed at reaching a negotiated agreement, but it is unlikely to work. This opinion was expressed by Congressman Don Bacon, a Nebraska Republican, in an interview with CBS News.
"I don't think it's working. He's trying too hard to act like a referee, trying to work with two different people in a boxing match, but that's not the case. There is a country that has invaded Ukraine, that bombs cities every night. There's a battle of good versus evil going on here, and America should, you know, unconditionally support the right side, a democracy, a country that seeks free markets, a country that wants to be on our side," said the politician, who served 29 years in the US Air Force.
He said Russia hates the US, and he doesn't understand why Trump doesn't see that. Bacon emphasized that Putin doesn't like America and hates what it stands for.
"So, that's the problem when it comes to the House of Representatives: the speaker didn't want to be, didn't want to oppose the president on this issue, and so he lobbied pretty hard, and we call it campaigning against this vote. I believe he was wrong. I waited a year and a half in this Congress to do something about Ukraine, and we did nothing. There have been no votes or policy decisions from the leadership here or from the president to support a country that is fighting for its life," the Republican emphasized.
The politician added that Ukraine has an advantage right now, but Russian Federation is shelling its cities every night, so the U.S. should be there to help the country defend itself against these attacks.
Bacon also noted that he supports the production of missiles for Patriot systems in Europe, which President Vladimir Zelensky previously suggested.
