The U.S. president threatened to leave Israel "on its own against Iran."
U.S. President Donald Trump warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. might not provide assistance to Tel Aviv in the event of further rocket attacks. Trump made this statement to the N12 television channel.
“I told him: Bibi, you have to be very careful in your actions, because very soon you may find yourself alone against Iran,” Trump said.
According to Trump, the five countries involved in mediating between the U.S. and Iran asked him to put pressure on Netanyahu.
“The Israelis provided us with updated information at a very late stage. They were already heading toward Iran. I managed to scale back the attack,” the U.S. president noted.
The U.S. president also said that the Iranian side was the first to promise not to attack Israel. “They asked us to tell Israel to stop the attacks. I called Bibi and made him stop,” Trump explained. He emphasized that he remains committed to the deal with Iran, and that Iran is “interested in signing it.”
On the evening of June 7, Iran launched missile strikes against Israel shortly after the IDF attacked Hezbollah infrastructure in the suburbs of Beirut. The Israeli military reported that it had intercepted the targets and launched retaliatory strikes.
