Boris Pistorius expressed his “deepest respect” for everything he had accomplished as Ukraine’s defense minister.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius addressed former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov, mentioned their collaboration, thanked him, and expressed his respect. The German Embassy in Kyiv published the statement by the head of the German Defense Ministry on July 17.
“Thank you, dear Mykhailo, for the excellent and trust-based cooperation over the past few months! Together, we have advanced the strategic partnership between our countries. This included both Germany’s extensive support for Ukraine and the fact that we simultaneously learned from your experience on the battlefield. One thing is certain: Ukraine’s recent successes in countering Russia’s war of aggression—including the deployment of drone units on the front lines—are largely due to your efforts,” Pistorius noted.
He expressed the view that Fedorov’s boldness in embracing innovation “has, not least, given Ukrainians new momentum” in the war unleashed by Russia.
The German defense minister emphasized that Fedorov, “with his unique style,” had also provided new momentum within the contact group on Ukrainian defense issues in the “Ramstein” format, demonstrating that Ukraine is fully capable of repelling brutal Russian attacks—and with far fewer casualties than those suffered by the occupiers.
Pistorius expressed his “deepest respect” for everything Fedorov had achieved “under extremely high pressure.”
“I am very sorry that you will not be continuing your work, and I hope that you will remain politically active,” he concluded.
