Turkey Is Sending Fighter Jets To The Russian Border

The Turkish contingent is leaving the province of Diyarbakır.
The Turkish Air Force will participate in patrolling the airspace of the Baltic region as part of a regular NATO mission.
Five F-16 fighter jets and 76 military personnel from the 181st "Panther" Jet Squadron will be redeployed to Amari Air Base in Estonia, according to Hurriyet Daily News.
The Turkish contingent, which is normally based in the province of Diyarbakır, will carry out its mission from August through November.
The mission’s primary objective is to ensure round-the-clock combat readiness for rapid response to intercept unidentified aircraft and counter potential violations of allied borders.
The airspace protection mission is carried out during peacetime to support the defense of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, which do not have their own fighter aircraft. In addition to standing duty, Turkish crews will participate in joint exercises with Alliance partners.
