Lukashenko Rambled Wildly About Bugs, Science, And The Forest

A somewhat incoherent stream of consciousness.

During his visit to Brest, dictator Lukashenko recounted how he allegedly “saved” Belovezhskaya Pushcha, which “would have been doomed” without him.

This was reported by the Telegram channel “Basta!”.

The chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik, in a conversation with the dictator, noted that scientists do not recommend removing fallen timber.

In response, Lukashenko stated that he himself authorizes this and cited an “example” from the beginning of his rule. However, what the dictator said sounded more like a rambling stream of consciousness:


“I give you permission. ‘Science.’ I remember when I became ‘president’—I was still a snotty-nosed kid. That saved the Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Nowadays, I’d still be thinking about it, guided by science. Bark beetles. Oh no, oh no.

Trees are falling, bark beetles are multiplying, the Pushcha is being destroyed. But the old-timers came and said, ‘Kid, we have to cut this down and clear it out, or everything will die.’ Science and the old-timers. I said, let’s cut it all down. We saved the forest. That forest would’ve been doomed. So much for science.”
