Ukrainian Drones Sank The Rosatom-owned Ship In The Black Sea

The ship sank.

The Russian container ship Yanina sank in the Black Sea following an attack by Ukrainian drones. The vessel belonged to FESCO, a subsidiary of Rosatom.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing “Strana Rosatom,” an industry publication of the state corporation Rosatom, as well as a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to information from the Russian side, the attack took place approximately 130 nautical miles from Novorossiysk. Two Ukrainian drones attacked the motor vessel Yanina, owned by the shipping company FESCO, which is part of Rosatom.

Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev stated that the Yanina was “an ordinary, peaceful container ship” carrying civilian cargo—ranging from food to construction materials.

According to him, the ship began to sink after sustaining damage, but all 17 crew members were rescued.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the sinking of the Yanina. He said that the Ukrainian military had struck targets supporting Russia’s war efforts.

“Last night, medium-range strikes were carried out—there have been hits in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas. The sanctioned Russian container ship Yanina, which was sailing under the Russian flag and had a capacity of over 100,000 metric tons, was also struck. Thanks to the precision of our Defense Forces, it sank.”

As a reminder, on the night of August 1, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a series of successful strikes against Russian military targets in Crimea and in the Black Sea.
