He was sentenced to 8 years.
Václav Oreshko , who was sentenced to eight years in prison in the “trade union case” , has experienced such a severe decline in his eyesight while in prison that he now has to feel his way around his cell block, according to the human rights center “Viasna” reports, citing a former political prisoner who served his sentence alongside Oreshko.
According to him, in other areas of the prison, 71-year-old Vaclav needs help from other political prisoners, since he only remembers the work unit area well. From time to time, the prison administration prohibits other inmates from helping him.
According to Viasna’s source, he has not had a single visit during his entire time in the colony, though he is allowed to call his family.
Vatslav Oreshko was detained in the spring of 2022. Along with him, Gennady Fedynych and Vasily Beresnev were convicted and sentenced to 9 years in prison. Later, Fedynych and Beresnev were released under a “pardon.”
