Novorossiysk Is Without Water

Hundreds of drones attacked the city.

The city of Novorossiysk, with a population of over 260,000, was left without water after a massive attack by Ukrainian drones. The raid damaged a main water pipeline, according to the Autonomous Thermal Power Company (ATEK). At the same time, to ensure the “stable and safe” operation of the equipment, the supply of not only cold but also hot water to residential buildings was cut off. Residents were promised that water service would be restored once “it becomes technically possible to restart the equipment,” according to The Moscow Times.

Prior to that, Novorossiysk Mayor Andrei Kravchenko reported that during the attack, drones damaged 21 residential buildings and four businesses. An eight-year-old boy was killed, and eight other people, including one child, were injured. One of the drones’ targets was the Novorossiysk grain terminal. Smoke rose above the terminal following the strikes, and nearby Magistralnaya Street was flooded with water from a ruptured pipeline, according to Astra. Demetra-Holding, the company that owns the terminal, confirmed that the facility sustained damage but declined to provide details. According to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters, the terminal has suspended operations.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the Defense Forces had carried out a “unique operation” to strike the Russian Federation’s naval base in Novorossiysk using “Palyanitsa” drones, “Neptune” missiles, and unmanned maritime systems.
