Belarusian Chess Player Makes A Sensational Run To The World Cup Final

Belarusian grandmaster Denis Lazavik has advanced to the final of the world’s premier esports competition—the Esports World Cup. The offline event is taking place in Paris.

It is a single-elimination tournament featuring the world’s top sixteen chess players.

In the semifinals, Lazavik defeated the American chess player of Japanese descent Hikaru Nakamura 2–0.

The 16th World Champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, also advanced to the final.

In the semifinals, Carlsen, representing the esports team Team Liquid, defeated Alireza Firuzja from France (Team Falcons) with a score of 4–1.

The final and the third-place match will take place on August 15.
