Apple Urges Users To Update Their IPhones Immediately

iPhone owners in 110 countries may be victims of a spy attack. Apple users have begun receiving a notification to that effect. It states that mercenary spies have targeted owners of Apple devices.

According to TechCrunch, this isn’t the first such notification that iPhone owners have received. The company previously sent out similar emails in May 2025. At that time, users in 100 countries around the world were at risk.

“Apple has detected an attack using commercial spyware targeting your iPhone. There are several steps you can take right now to protect your data and device,” the message states.

Receiving such an alert does not necessarily mean that your iPhone has been hacked. However, Apple recommends immediately putting your device into Lockdown Mode, which will make attacks using spyware more difficult. The company is not yet aware of any cases of a successful iPhone hack while in this mode.

The company also advises other users to take precautions: update their iPhone to the latest version of iOS, secure the device with a passcode, Touch ID or Face ID, and enable two-factor authentication.

Apple periodically sends similar notifications to users who may be subject to targeted surveillance. These involve sophisticated tools like Pegasus, which are typically sold to government agencies and used to monitor specific individuals—in particular, journalists, activists, politicians, and diplomats.
