Pashinyan's Government In Armenia Has Resigned

The reason has been identified.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the resignation of his government in connection with the start of the first session of the newly elected parliament—the National Assembly.

This was reported by the Armenpress news agency.

In a video address, Pashinyan announced the start of the 9th convocation of the National Assembly of Armenia, which, according to the country’s Constitution, requires the government to resign.

The prime minister stated that he is preparing to sign the corresponding statement and submit it to the country’s president.

According to procedure, after the government’s resignation is accepted, the head of state must appoint a new prime minister, whose candidacy will be nominated by the parliamentary majority. This is expected to take place as early as Sunday, August 2.

Since it was the party of Armenia’s current Prime Minister, “Civic Contract,” that won the parliamentary elections on June 7 and secured a majority in the National Assembly, Nikol Pashinyan will most likely head the government again.

As a reminder, the most recent parliamentary elections in Armenia took place less than a month ago, on June 7, amid active Russian interference. Following the election, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared a historic victory.
