U.S. National Debt Has Exceeded The $40 Trillion Mark For The First Time

Most of the amount consists of securities purchased by citizens.

The U.S. national debt has exceeded $40 trillion for the first time, having doubled during the Trump and Biden administrations.

This was reported by Reuters.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that the U.S. national debt had exceeded $40 trillion for the first time.

This figure includes $32.266 trillion in securities held by U.S. citizens and $7.78 trillion in intergovernmental debt.

In less than 10 years, the U.S. national debt has doubled—from $19.95 trillion at the start of Donald Trump’s first presidential term. One-third of this doubling occurred during the two “COVID” years.

Last week, the U.S. Treasury reported the fourth-largest monthly budget deficit in the country’s history—$432 billion in July.

When asked recently whether Americans should be concerned about volatility in the bond market, Trump replied in the negative.

“In my view, not at all. I think we have a very powerful country,” he said, after which he reiterated that he believes it is necessary to lower interest rates.
