The President of Ukraine spoke of a “solid foundation” for the further development of the partnership between the two countries.
Ukrainians and Hungarians are bound by good-neighborly relations, mutual respect, and a centuries-long history of fighting together for freedom.
This is stated in an open letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar.
The head of state congratulated Péter Magyar and the Hungarian people on their national holiday—St. Stephen’s Day.
“On behalf of the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian state, it is my honor to congratulate you and the entire friendly Hungarian people on the occasion of Hungary’s national holiday—St. Stephen’s Day,” Zelenskyy noted.
The President emphasized that Ukraine and Hungary are bound by good-neighborly relations, mutual respect, and a centuries-long history of joint struggle for freedom and statehood. According to him, this creates a solid foundation for the further development of the partnership between the two countries.
“We are grateful to Hungary for its consistent support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its solidarity during this period—which is so important for our country and all of Europe—marked by brutal Russian aggression,” the head of state said.
He specifically noted Hungary’s humanitarian aid and its support for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian children and military personnel, as well as for Ukrainian citizens.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that Ukraine values Hungary as a good neighbor and a reliable partner. He noted that thanks to the choice of the Hungarian people, a new chapter is opening in bilateral relations, based on mutually beneficial cooperation, mutual respect, peace, and mutual understanding.
According to him, this is particularly symbolic, as this year Ukraine and Hungary are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
“I reaffirm my readiness for open and constructive cooperation aimed at further strengthening Ukrainian-Hungarian relations and developing comprehensive cooperation for the sake of our common European future,” the president emphasized.
In closing, Zelenskyy added that he would be pleased to welcome Péter Mályi to Kyiv at his earliest convenience.
