Norway Has Become The European Union's Leading Gas Supplier For The First Time

It surpassed the U.S.

Norway has become the European Union’s leading gas supplier for the first time, surpassing the United States in volume. This was announced by European Commission (EC) spokesperson Eva Hrcinová.

“We are currently receiving gas mainly from Norway and the United States, with slightly more coming from Norway,” Ms. Hrcinova clarified at a briefing in Brussels.

The EC spokesperson added that EU member states are currently preparing their gas storage facilities ahead of the heating season. “The pace is somewhat slower than in previous years, but things are actually going well, and as of today, we’re very close to 62%,” Eva Hrcinova said.

By the end of 2025, Norway had supplied 114.9 billion cubic meters to Europe, which is 2.3% lower than the previous year’s figure. According to gas operator Gassco, the United Kingdom accounted for the largest share of deliveries (10%).
