F-16 Opens Fire On A Marine Drone Near Romania: Dramatic Footage

A video of the destruction has surfaced.

A Romanian F-16 fighter jet shot down a maritime drone in the country’s exclusive economic zone off the coast of Constanța. The incident occurred on August 20 near the Neptun Alpha platform.

This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of National Defense.

Military officials noted that two F-16 aircraft were dispatched to the area after a commercial vessel reported a drifting marine drone at 6:28 a.m.

One of the fighter jets fired its onboard cannon and shot down the drone. Afterward, a coast guard vessel carrying a team of Romanian Navy bomb disposal experts was dispatched to the scene to examine the object.

Radu Miruce, Romania’s acting defense minister, also posted a video of the drone’s destruction.

“Video of today’s destruction of a maritime drone near the Neptun Deep platform. Romania is defending its interests,” he wrote.

As a reminder, earlier in Romania an explosion involving a maritime drone occurred near the port of Constanța and out at sea. The country’s president Niculescu Dan stated that one of the drones was Ukrainian and was part of a group of four drones that had gone out of control.
