A "stash" Of Weapons Belonging To Russian Spies Was Found In Germany

A man who may have organized it was detained in Romania.

German law enforcement officials discovered a cache of pistols in a forest near Berlin. According to an investigation by German media, the weapons may have been intended for sabotage operations linked to Russian intelligence services. This was reported by Reuters.

The cache was discovered last year. Later, a man was detained in Romania whom investigators may link to the organization of this weapons cache.

The German Federal Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a case involving the possible planning of a serious act of violence that could have posed a threat to the state. German counterintelligence, which had previously warned of an increased risk of Russian sabotage and assassination attempts, suspects that the organizers of the cache may have been acting on instructions from Russian intelligence agencies.

According to the investigation, potential targets may have included executives of defense companies, opposition activists living in exile, and people supporting Ukraine.

This is not the first time German defense companies have found themselves at the center of such investigations. In 2024, German authorities reported that they had foiled a potential assassination attempt on Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger. According to investigators, Russian intelligence services may have been involved in planning the attack.

Following this, Papperger warned of a possible increase in incidents involving Russian drones in Europe and called for stronger measures to counter such threats.
