The U.S. Has Launched Operation "Economic Outcast" Against Iran And Its Allies

Washington has launched an attack on Tehran's financial networks around the world.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has launched an “unprecedented” operation called “Economic Outcast” against Iran, announced the department’s head Scott Bessent at a press conference.

According to him, the measures will target Tehran itself and any countries that support the Iranian government.

“The U.S. Department of the Treasury has launched Operation ‘Economic Outcast’—an unprecedented campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran and those who aid it... We are launching an economic assault on Iran’s financial networks around the world,” he said.

According to him, Washington’s goal is to sever all economic ties that prop up the regime in Iran. Bessent stated that the U.S. will “tighten the noose” and block all potential sources of revenue funding the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). “We adhere to a zero-leakage principle,” he emphasized.

U.S. President Donald Trump is calling world leaders with specific requests to cease their interactions with Iran, Bessent added. Any organization that, as the U.S. Treasury Secretary noted, facilitates money laundering on behalf of Tehran will be excluded from the U.S. dollar system.

The day before, Bessent wrote in an article for The Financial Times that the U.S. has already weakened Iran’s military capabilities, and now Washington will bring about “D-Day” for the Iranian economy. “At dawn, the economic ‘D-Day’ begins—the greatest financial offensive ever mounted against an adversary,” the Treasury Secretary wrote.
