Trump Announced His Intention To Rename Lake Ontario

Canada has promised to "fight back."

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on his Truth Social page that the United States is seriously considering renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America.

According to the U.S. leader, the renaming of the lake is due to the fact that the U.S. no longer expects to “have much to do with Ontario.” He also expressed gratitude for the attention given to this issue.

Canadian authorities responded to the U.S. president’s statement about the possible renaming of the lake. Canada’s Minister of Industry Melanie Joly commented on this to reporters on Tuesday, August 25.

“We will always call it Lake Ontario,” Joly replied.

The minister added that as long as such “antics” by the U.S. continue, Canada will act strategically and push back.

Lake Ontario, part of the Great Lakes system in North America, lies on the border between the U.S. and Canada, and its name comes from the Canadian province of the same name, where its northern shore is located.
