Russian Ships Fear Drones In The Baltic Sea

The Russian small missile ship (MRK) *Serpukhov*, currently in the Baltic Sea, has been equipped with anti-drone cages and sandbags to protect against Ukrainian drones. This was reported by the publication “Military”.

Anti-drone cages were installed on top of the superstructure and on the ship’s sides. In addition, sandbags were spotted near the 30-mm automatic artillery mount.

According to Russian sailors’ estimates, the cages are intended to protect the ship directly from drone attacks, while the sandbags are designed to safeguard the automatic cannons when repelling air attacks.

As the publication notes, the Russian military has for some time been installing such protective grilles on its ships on a large scale. Similar structures have also been observed on Russian submarines in the Black Sea—specifically, at the naval base in Novorossiysk, where anti-drone grilles have begun to be installed on submarines. In June, such structures were spotted on three Russian Kilo-class submarines (according to NATO classification)—diesel-electric submarines of the Project 877 Paltus class and the modernized Project 636 Varshavyanka class.

As for the Baltic Sea, anti-drone grilles have been installed not only on the Serpukhov-class corvette but also on other Russian warships. In particular, the mesh structure was spotted on the large landing ship (BDK) “Alexander Shabalin.”
