A man wielding a shovel attacked churchgoers near the Church of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women on Belorechenskaya Street in southeast Moscow, according to TASS from law enforcement agencies in the Russian capital.
The incident occurred around 9:50 a.m. A man attacked churchgoers and then the paramedics who arrived on the scene. “According to preliminary reports, a passerby neutralized the attacker,” said a source at the agency.
Later, law enforcement officials told the agency that, according to preliminary reports, a passerby shot the man who had attacked the churchgoers with a non-lethal weapon. REN TV reports that authorities are investigating whether he legally possessed the weapon.
The attacker was registered at a psychoneurological clinic.
